Steve Wilks

Senior Lecturer in Safety Disaster & Risk Management

Steve Wilks

About Steve Wilks

Steve’s background is as a firefighter, originally in Bristol as a member of the County of Avon Fire Brigade, and then moving on to aviation firefighting. When he worked for British Aerospace he had to qualify at the International Fire Training Centre at Durham Tees Valley Airport. Having qualified at the centre, he was asked to do a couple of short teaching secondments, and then moved there full time. He went on to gain a certificate, diploma and then a degree in education.

Enterprise interest and activities

Steve plans to do some disaster management consultancy in the future. When there’s a large-scale disaster, like the Haiti earthquake, most aid agencies need people who already have hands-on experience, particularly in the emergency phase. Steve is developing strong links with Kenyon International and British Red Cross.
