Laura Brown

Senior Lecturer in Nutrition, Food and Health Sciences

About Laura Brown

Locally-born Dr Brown graduated from Teesside University in 2005 with a First-class BSc (Hons) Sports and Exercise Science (Applied Sports Science and Exercise Physiology). She went on to complete an MSc Sports and Exercise Nutrition at Loughborough University, and a PhD at the University of Hull. Her PhD, Effects of Pre- and Post- Carbohydrate Ingestion on both Metabolism and Exercise Performance, was awarded in 2009.

Dr Brown worked as a Health Trainer for the NHS (East Riding of Yorkshire) (2009 - 2011), Lecturer in Sports Nutrition and Performance at the University of Derby (2010 - 2011), and a Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Nutrition at York St John University (2013 - 2014) before taking up her present post at Teesside University.

Research interests and activities

Diet and obesity: To work with individuals to encourage and promote healthy eating and exercise in order to reduce obesity and improve overall health.

Health: The effects of diet, exercise and lifestyle behaviours on specific parameters of health.

Athletic performance: To work with athletes of all levels to provide them with nutritional strategies aimed at improving their athletic performance.
