The School of Science & Engineering
Developing the problem solvers, innovators and leaders of the future
We offer a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate and short courses in applied science and engineering including one year extended science or engineering course entry to first degrees.
To complement these traditional courses, we have developed innovative new programmes, including foundation degrees in engineering and chemical technology and degrees in disaster management, forensic investigation, crime scene science, internet and micro-systems technology.
A number of courses offer exchanges in Europe funded by the Socrates-Erasmus programme. Most offer an industrial training period - in some cases this can be in Europe, the USA or Canada.
We are active in research and consultancy and enjoy close links with local and national businesses which take part in course development and delivery. They also provide a range of prizes, student awards, sandwich placements and sponsorship for academic posts. We have visiting professors and guest lecturers from leading companies, the NHS and the government.
Our undergraduate courses are modular. Most have a common first term so you can make career choices later. There are also many opportunities for postgraduate and research work.
