How was your time at Teesside?

My overall university experience has been really positive and probably life-changing. I have had so many opportunities through studying at Teesside, as well as meeting incredible people, and I’ve learned so much. Academically and socially my experiences have been very positive. The teaching and feedback are excellent, and facilities are available to everyone – with a ‘just ask’ ethos.

How did Teesside help you achieve your goals?

I studied for a BSc (Hons) Crime and Investigation, and LLM International Law. Both courses have been very inspirational and influential in where I want to go in life. Through the University, I have been able to volunteer at a fantastic organisation -
Cleveland Police – where I hope my experience of working there will benefit my future career. During my volunteering I gained knowledge and skills in organisation, activism, leadership, cooperation and resolving issues.

Why did you choose Teesside?

I was invited to an open day and I was inspired by the way the tutor presented the course to us. I lacked self-confidence and will never forget how the tutor helped me to believe in my own ability to successful engage in higher education.

What did you enjoy most about your course?

The staff were helpful, intellectual, professional, comprehensive and friendly. I enjoyed all the modules, but practical sessions were interesting and beneficial and I particularly enjoyed the forensic science module - the materials and specialist equipment were generously available. I benefited by extra tutorial support, and am very grateful for that.

What subject did you enjoy most?

The LLM course was broad ranging with various modules on criminal investigation. Therefore the opportunities to specialise and research field were plentiful, and I have veered towards counter-terrorism and investigation. It’s a really interesting subject, and it has been really motivating to hear from guests speakers.

Have you got any ambitions for the future?

I have applied for direct entry with the police service, and credit my degree with giving me an insight into this sector, and the skills to succeed. I am also keen to pursue a PhD to research the counter-terrorism Prevent strategy in UK communities.
