About Dom White

Dominic White is a Senior Lecturer in Exercise Science at Teesside University. After completing his BSc (Hons) in Sport & Exercise Science at Teesside in 2000 he went onto work for the National Health Service as a researcher investigating lower back pain and health for two years. He came back to work at Teesside University in 2002 and started teaching as a full-time member of staff in 2006. He teaches exercise physiology on several modules across a number of degree programmes. Dominic completed his MSc Sport & Exercise degree at Teesside in 2007.

From 2009 to 2014 Dominic held the position as Sport Scientist for Great Britain national rock climbing team, providing sport science to both male and female teams. Dominic used his scientific understanding of rock climbing performance to develop testing apparatus and procedures to evaluate the physical capacity of rock climbers, conducting much of the testing here at Teesside. Members of the Great Britain rock climbing team have gone onto gain podium positions in world cup rock climbing competitions in recent years.

Research interests and activities

To date Dominic’s research interests have focussed on health related issues, with research into lower back pain, as well as measuring and improving sport performance.
