About Alex Kyriakopoulos

Dr Alex Kyriakopoulos graduated from Teesside university in 2003 with a BSc in Psychology (Hons). He also achieved a MSc in Counselling Psychology in 2005 and a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology in 2009 both at Teesside University. 

He is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council since 2009 as a Practitioner Psychologist and is a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society as well as Member of the Division of Counselling Psychology.

He has worked both in primary and secondary care in the UK, Germany and Greece within a variety of settings ranging from college counselling services to forensic units.  During his career so far he has worked therapeutically with a wide range of clinical presentations including: anxiety disorders, mood disorders, psychotic spectrum disorders, personality disorders, general learning difficulties, specific learning difficulties, developmental disorders, substance misuse disorders and autism.

Currently, he works full-time at the university as a Programme Leader (Director) for the Doctorate in Counselling Psychology. He teaches on a number of modules, including Psychopathology, Intergrative Relational Models and Research Progress. He also supervises trainees through their research. 

Research interests and activities

Public Health; Integrative Psychotherapy; Mental Health & Wellbeing; Identity, Human Development  & Development of Psychopathology; Personality Disorders.  

PhD and research opportunities

PhD and Research Opportunities in the following areas are provided: 

1. Integrative Psycho-therapeutic practice
2. Structures in social policy
3. Developing models of Wellbeing (with a special interest in higher education)
4. Role of identity in mental health and wellbeing

Learning and teaching interests

Learning and teaching interests consist of developing constructionist learning environments and flipped class-rooms. 

Enterprise interest and activities

Enterprise interests comprises of developing psychology/mental health training CPD programmes for both internal and external partners and businesses.
