Martin Harmer

About Martin Harmer

Martin’s background is in parent support within early years. After graduating from Queens’ College, Cambridge with a BA (Hons) in Social and Political Sciences he worked mainly in combined childrens’centres and family centres in London and Bradford, before training as a Social Worker through a Master of Social Work course at York University. After qualifying he worked for the NSPCC in York as a Child Protection Officer, investigating concerns about children, assessing abuse situations and providing therapeutic work with children and families.

Currently Martin is a Year 1 tutor for the BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies, and teaches on the Early Years (Sector Endorsed) Foundation Degree.

His academic interests are in early intervention, child protection / safeguarding, parenting skills and parent support, and family therapy….and he’s always willing to hear from anyone else investigating the potential of e-learning or who loves South African jazz!
