Ursula Quick

Senior Lecturer in Education

Ursula Quick

About Ursula Quick

Ursula began her teaching career as a part-time tutor at Darlington College teaching Modern Foreign Languages (German and French) whilst at the same time completing her Certificate in Education and BA (Hons) in Education and Training. Successful completion of the Trinity College TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) resulted in her taking on additional teaching hours in ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages).

Ursula also became involved in the delivery of the Cert. Ed./PGCE at Darlington College, then franchised by the University of Huddersfield. This enabled Ursula to continue her studies and gain an MA in Education Management. In 2003 Ursula became Centre Manager for the Cert. Ed./PGCE and was in charge of the part-time as well as the full-time cohorts. Ursula was also involved in delivering modules on the BA (Hons) in Education through the University of Sunderland and delivering on the TESOL course.

In 2010 the College moved all its teacher training provision to Teesside University and Ursula became the Course leader. In July 2013 she successfully applied for the role of HE Manager at Darlington College and although she handed over the role of course leader for teacher training, she still taught some of the modules and helped prepare the College for ITT Ofsted inspection. In February 2014, Ursula joined Teesside University as Senior Lecturer in Education and has joined the Professional Graduate Certificate in Education and BA Education Studies teaching team.

In 2015 Ursula became a senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Research interests and activities

Ursula’s particular interest is on the role of Cert. Ed./PgCE tutors in modelling good practice and fostering creativity. She is also interested in forming communities of practice and using Action Research to enhance teaching. Another area of interest is the development of teachers after completion of the initial teacher training course through the provision of specific MA and/or BA modules.
