About the School of Social Sciences & Law
Excellence in teaching and research
The School of Social Sciences & Law provides excellence in teaching and research in a diverse range of areas including criminology, education, law, policing and investigation, psychology, sociology and sport and exercise.
Dr Mark Simpson graduated from Teesside with a degree in politics. He went on to conduct a PhD which explored the relationship between drug use and crime among young people in north east England.

Workforce development
In addition to our traditional portfolio of programmes the School has a strong record in workforce development. For example in the area of policing we work a number of police forces in the UK as well as across the globe.
English language
The School hosts the English language unit, which provides pre-sessional and in-sessional English for international students.
Research
The School has an international reputation in research in a number of areas and is home to the Social Futures Institute.
