We carry out externally funded research, policy evaluation and consultancy, in addition to organising regional, national and international events. The Unit has a well established reputation for delivering empirical research projects, especially action projects in the areas of social exclusion, difference and diversity. Staff associated with USPR work closely with voluntary groups and agencies in a variety of community and organisational settings.

- The Chandni digital arts project:
Steve Thompson and Carrie Singleton have been working with the Chandni group on their Digital Arts Project funded by The National Lottery Awards for All. The Chandni Ladies Group get together at the International Centre in Middlesbrough to cook healthy food, learn new skills, socialise and go on outings.
