The Athena is one of two brand new ultra modern buildings at the centre of our University campus – together making an investment of around £22m.

These provide showcase facilities for students, staff and partners in the DigitalCity initiative, which aims to build a world-class reputation for creativity and excellence in areas such as computer animation, computer games development, digital design and digital media.

£10m has been invested in Athena – a fantastic purpose-built undergraduate teaching facility which provides nearly 4,000 square metres of studio space for teaching and learning in digital design for our students.

This means our computing, design and media students have one of the country's best teaching environments for teaching digital media and technology all under one roof.

For the School of Arts & Media there are design studios, an experimental workshop, a newsroom, broadcast news studios and multimedia publishing studios. And for the School of Computing there are suites for 2-D and 3-D computer animation, computer games art, design and programming, visualisation, graphics programming and digital music.

Crowning it all is a prestigious entrance with gallery space for exhibitions, displays and open days.

The University has also established the DigitalCity Fellowships scheme which provides financial support and expertise to graduates, alumni, junior staff, regional artists and creative producers to develop their business ideas.
