By the coast
Redcar offers traditional seaside attractions where cobles still sell the catch from the beach.
Saltburn - this spa town is well known for its Victorian buildings, water powered cliff lift, smuggling history and its top surf.
Hartlepool Marina is just up the road and there you'll find a £300m development with award-winning tourist attractions, top-class shopping and wide sandy beaches.
The River Tees
The Tees Barrage has a world class white water rafting course and up river is the River Tees Watersports Centre, part owned by us, where you can water ski, canoe or kayak.
Test your limits - bungee jump from the Transporter Bridge.
Parks
Albert Park is 100 acres of quiet green space with a boating lake and rollerskating rink - so close it's overlooked by some of the University's residences.
Stewart Park offers rolling woodland, a pets corner and the Captain Cook Museum.
Nature's World - a pioneering environmental experience.
Preston Park - in Stockton - well worth a visit for woods and parkland, Teesside Princess river cruise, Preston Hall museum and Butterfly World.
Picturesque market towns
Yarm voted the best high street in the country (BBC) where you'll discover the traditional sitting alongside exclusive boutiques and upmarket restaurants.
Stockton - just the other side of the river you'll find great shopping, nights out and riverside attractions.
Guisborough - an ancient market town overlooked by historic Gisborough Priory - enjoy cobbled streets, woodlands and hills including Roseberry Topping - a popular place for walkers and cyclists.
The great outdoors
Middlesbrough is a great central base for exploring everything the region has to offer. On our doorstep is some of the most fantastic countryside - the North York Moors National Park and stunning coastline.
Go north for the historic centres in Durham and Northumbria or south to the Yorkshire Dales for picturesque villages and traditional market towns.
