Quality Handbook

The Quality Handbook describes the University’s strategic approach to quality management, setting out its key features

The handbook:

  • sets out the principles and procedures within the quality system for the planning, quality assurance and enhancement of taught and research degree provision, including Partnership provision
  • provides the additional information required to support the above procedures, including links to appropriate guidance, forms and templates.

Sections of the Quality Handbook

Section A: Introduction

Details the purpose of the Handbook and the University’s approach to quality and standards.


Section B: Portfolio Development Planning

Provides guidance in relation to Portfolio Development Planning. It includes processes and procedures for approval of new award titles, approval of University Certificate award titles, guidance for Collaborative Partners, change of award titles, suspension/closure of awards and Partnerships.

Section C1: Approval & Review of Programmes

Provides guidance and procedures in relation to the formal approval of a new programme, periodic review of an existing programme, procedures for changes between scheduled reviews, approval and review of University Certificate awards, approval and review of modules, management of Professional Statutory and Regulatory Bodies and protocol for the termination of programmes.

Section C6: Annual Monitoring & Enhancement

Details the annual monitoring and enhancement process and includes templates for Module Leader reports, subject level reports, programme reports, School Student Learning & Experience Sub-Committee reports and overview reports for collaborative provision. There is also guidance relating to reports provided by service units, the University Postgraduate Research Assessment Board and on student performance data.

Section F: Assurance and Enhancement of Research Degrees

Details processes for Research Degrees, the University documents framework and Regulations for the Award of Higher Degrees by Research. The code of practice for research degrees operates in parallel to this document and should be referred to for further details about all processes and procedures outlined in the handbook.
