Quality Handbook

The Quality Handbook describes the University’s strategic approach to quality management, setting out its key features

The handbook:

  • sets out the principles and procedures within the quality system for the planning, quality assurance and enhancement of taught and research degree provision, including Partnership provision
  • provides the additional information required to support the above procedures, including links to appropriate guidance, forms and templates.

Sections of the Quality Handbook

Section A: Introduction to the Quality Handbook

Details the purpose of the Handbook and the University’s approach to quality and standards.

Section B: Portfolio Development

Provides guidance in relation to Portfolio Development Planning. It includes processes and procedures for approval of new award titles, approval of University Certificate award titles, guidance for Collaborative Partners, change of award titles, suspension/closure of awards and Partnerships.

Section C: Course Approval and Periodic Review of Teesside University Provision

Provides guidance and procedures in relation to the formal approval of a new course, periodic review of an existing course, procedures for changes between scheduled reviews, approval and review of University Certificate awards, approval and review of modules, management of Professional Statutory and Regulatory Bodies and protocol for the termination of courses.

Section C6: Annual Monitoring and Enhancement (will remain in operation until 31st July 2018)

The Annual Monitoring and Enhancement process is currently being phased out. For Teesside University and Higher Education Business Partnership, this process remains applicable for reporting on academic year 2016/17 only. For International and Employer Partners, this process is applicable for reporting on academic year 2016/17 and will continue for 2017/18. This section details the Annual Monitoring and Enhancement process and includes all relevant templates.

Section D1: Continuous Monitoring and Enhancement

The new Continuous Monitoring and Enhancement process came into effect from academic year 2017/18. Course Leaders based at the University are asked to complete the Course Journals online via Course Journals - SharePoint Site as part of this process. The annual report templates and guidance for Schools and Central Departments are included within the annexes of this section and information regarding useful data sources: Annex 13 - CME Data Sources. Section F: Research Degrees

Details processes for Research Degrees, the University documents Framework and Regulations for the Award of Higher Degrees by Research. The Code of Practice for Postgraduate Research operates in parallel to this document and should be referred to for further details about all processes and procedures outlined in the handbook. Further information can be found on the Research and Innovation Services SharePoint site.
