Inaugural Professorial Lecture
Professor John Dixon

Problems with our balance and walking ability can arise as we age, and in various diseases and injuries. Recent research suggests that wearing textured insoles in your shoes may be effective in enhancing balance and walking ability. It is believed that these insoles stimulate the sole of the foot and provide our nervous system with more sensory information. This presentation discusses current knowledge of this area, recent and ongoing studies including research with people with multiple sclerosis.
