I’ve taken a year out of education or employment to fully commit to training in the hope to achieve my goal of competing in the 2020 Olympics Games.

I studied BSc (Hons) Biological Sciences which was a great course. The wide range of modules really interested me, and I thoroughly enjoyed the amount of practical and laboratory work as it widened my knowledge of similar practices in external laboratories. I plan to work in a laboratory environment in the future, potentially within the NHS.

I was a member of Teesside University’s elite athlete scheme – this helped my training through an increase in land work and technique improvement which really helped my swimming. I was also awarded a Teesside Extra scholarship.

My time at University helped improve my career in terms of time management, organisational skills, independent study and group work. It also really improved my laboratory skills and techniques.

Since graduating from University I’ve been a silver and bronze medallist at the British Summer Championships and three times British record holder, age 18-24. I also won four gold medals at the ASA Senior Championships.
