Martin is cast in a new role

Graduate Martin McKie helped transform a company working in one of British industry's most traditional sectors.

This Partnership received financial support from the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships programme (KTP). KTP aims to help businesses to improve their competitiveness and productivity through the better use of knowledge, technology and skills that reside within the UK knowledge base. KTP is funded by the Technology Strategy Board along with the other government funding organisations.

Stockton Casting Company, which employs 28 people, has been working with Martin to improve the way it works. The roots of the collaboration lie in Martin's successful completion of an Advanced Manufacturing Systems degree at Teesside in 2006.

A range of improvements
Martin has introduced a range of improvements at the company including developing new subcontractors, introducing Enterprise Resource Planning systems and increasing recycling. Martin said, 'This project has helped to make the company more competitive as well as improving my own skills.'

For Alex Ramsay, Technical Manager of Stockton Casting, the benefits are clear. He said, 'Martin has enabled us to turn some of our ideas into reality.'
