University provides a streamlined process

Hertel UK, provider of support services to the process industries, are currently working with the University to redevelop the company's valve maintenance system.

This partnership involves transferring expertise available within our School of Computing, to develop a fully integrated system.

On completion, Hertel will benefit from a reduction in errors caused by the use of many disparate systems, improved stock control and enhanced client satisfaction as a result of a more efficient system.

The work, over six months, has been delivered through a Collaborative Innovation Partnership (part funded by One NorthEast) which looks to assist companies in achieving their strategic aims and objectives and encourage innovation.

Operationally, an academic spends half a day per week at the company supervising a graduate who has been employed to facilitate the knowledge transfer. The graduate is employed by the University but works full time at the company.

Streamlining systems is just one area in which the University can assist companies. Others include:

  • finding new markets
  • improving existing products
  • developing new products
  • lean systems and processes

Companies must be registered in the North East to be eligible. For further information please contact cip@tees.ac.ukor call the Knowledge Transfer Team on 01642 384407.
