About 3D printing
3D printing ( or additive manufacturing ) is a rapidly growing technology that is transforming the future of manufacturing. It helps reduce manufacturing costs, allows a higher level of customisation, simplifies the supply chain and reduces waste.
Digital fabrication uses computer-controlled tools and novel processes to transform digital designs directly into useful physical products. Using digital data, 3D printers add multiple thin layers of materials such as polymer or metal which are then fused to form solid objects.
This technology allows advantages of freedom of design, rapid tooling, prototyping and manufacturing end-use parts and can also be used to produce prototypes that incorporate multiple and digitally-mixed materials.
