How do I join?
What's it all about and what's in it for me?

You just need to get in touch:

Supporting and encouraging entrepreneurship.

entrepreneurs@tees is open to any Teesside University student.

During this academic year entrepreneurs@tees is running a variety of fantastic free events, activities and business challenges to help you:

  • learn about enterprise
  • get some business experiences in a brilliant and unusual way
  • meet new friends and gain new skills which will make you even more attractive to employers, or to yourself if you decide to start your own business.

If you think you’ve got what it takes to get your name on the same list as Mark Zuckerberg, Simon Cowell, Oprah Winfrey, Richard Branson, Karren Brady and Delia Smith, or you just want the chance to learn more about business in a fun and informal way, the entrepreneurs@tees programme could be for you.

Challenge update – who, what, why and when

Victoria Road Rebrand

We challenged you to come up with a new name, a new logo and a new look for the Victoria Road School building, the University's centre for new graduate businesses.

The competition was won by Graphic Design student Jennifer Crewdson, whilst Azeem Aslam, an MSc Management student was runner up. Congratulations to both.

Cupcake

Cupcakes

A challenge set to test your selling skills - we provided the cupcakes and you sold them on. Ten teams took part on the day and you'd better believe it – we raised a whopping £1,145! If you fancy yourself as a bit of an Apprentice style wheeler dealer – watch out for our Charity Cupcake Challenge on 18 November. Team spaces on a first come first serve basis, so register now!

Beer mat business idea

Well done to the winners of the challenge who were picked from an astounding 200 entries. Twelve prizes of £50 were presented at the awards event at the Dickens Inn Gold Room back in November 2011.

Technology

In collaboration with the DigitalCity Fellowship programme, this challenge brought about some incredible ideas to use technology to make money in original and creative ways. Mandy Lowther was crowned the overall winner and took home an iPad 2. Alecia Cotterell and Tom Burton impressed the judges with their entries and were presented Highly Commended awards.

Paperclip

Proving that one man's trash is another man's treasure - who would have thought a paper clip could generate income! Teams of students swapped and traded a paper clip for a more valuable item. Prizes of £80 for 2nd, £80 and 3rd prize, and £100 for 1st place were awarded to the most successful teams. Teammates Mandy Lowther and Helen Greaves took first place and were invited to select a charity of their choice to donate all successful trades to.

Social enterprise

Original ideas for a new social enterprise meant prizes, including Kindles and Amazon vouchers, for Ian Brady (1st), Alex Robertson (2nd), and Lauren Dye (3rd).

Well done to everybody who took part in the challenges – keep your eyes open for our future challenges.

Join the Teesside Entrepreneurs Society

entrepreneurs@tees is looking for students to get involved in running the Teesside Entrepreneurs Society. In particular we need a management committee of enthusiastic and dedicated members who can manage this year’s activities and events as well as planning next year’s programme.

The membership is open to students, alumni and graduate businesses. It’s a great opportunity to meet some really interesting people, make new friends and put something really useful on your CV. If you are interested, email ents@tees.ac.uk
