Leadership Accelerator is focused on creating and delivering value for attendees, with a blend of practical activity and focused outcomes. The deliverers are vastly experienced in their industries with lots to draw upon. They maintain active interests in enterprise through board level, non-executive directorships, consultancy and research projects.

On completion of the programme, delegates have:

  • an awareness of their unique individual development profile, having undertaken a diagnostic tool (e.g. 360 degree ESCI) and received individual feedback
  • identified their individual leadership development needs
  • fully engaged with a range of key business areas and managerial and leadership competencies
  • developed business and peer networks
  • developed skills and knowledge in leading and managing people and teams.

The programme begins with each delegate completing a diagnostic tool focusing on behaviours that successful leaders and managers display to identify individual development needs. The tool is tailored to suit the stage at which each participant is at in their career. A second review is carried out at the end of the programme.

Action learning sets focus on the issues that arise when delegates transfer lessons from the programme to live challenges within the workplace. They enhance the delegate’s learning capability to increase the impact of the programme.

Set members learn through a process of constructive questioning and reflection followed by action. The presenter (issue holder) takes what they have learnt back to their workplace – initiating changes and trying new ideas or approaches. The theory behind action learning is that we learn most when we are asking or being asked insightful questions and learning this skill also develops participants’ leadership and managerial capabilities.

Action learning sets have maximum impact when participants commit to and attend all four per year. This enables trust to develop to underpin the peer-to-peer learning, which in turn enables real life work challenges to be addressed.

Coaching provides positive support focusing on individual needs, ambitions and desires – empowering delegates to identify the strategies and tactics to help them achieve their goals. Coaching is also a tool to measure progress against defined individual markers and targets.

Meetings with a company mentor or line manager allow the delegate to relate the programme to individual company values.

Meetings with a company mentor or line manager allow the delegate to relate the programme to individual company values.

Delegates have the opportunity to establish a project that will benefit both the individual and the organisation. This workshop provides the foundations for this by exploring the mechanics of establishing a study, achieving the necessary focus, understanding critical thinking, examining models of reflective learning and the use of contextualised language.

Throughout the programme delegates are encouraged to monitor and reflect on changes in their behaviours, using a mixture of facilitated action learning sets, coaching, mentoring and through the completion of a journal.

Theoretical concepts are explored from both academic and practical perspectives utilising a range of methods including:

  • Presentations
  • Facilitated group discussions
  • Topic interpretations
  • Real time case studies and
  • Inspirational guest speakers

Comments from former participants

'It's nice to be on a course where you can challenge the contents and you're given an answer that shows the facilitator's understanding of the sector. The learning styles used are allowing us to develop through the application of the techniques.'

Daniel Rees, Engineer, SABIC

'I would recommend the programme, and have already done so to the company directors. I believe the course will give me the valuable skills needed to succeed, as well as reminding me of the skill sets I have already displayed (developed may be better) to achieve my current career success. I have always had a reputation as a firm but fair leader, and the course has already allowed me to reflect on possible character trait changes that I may have encountered on my journey. No other course has ever had this effect.'

Dave Fortune, Plant Manager, Fine Organics Ltd
