The Grad Bus will arrive at the University on Tuesday 21 April as part of a drive to promote Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs).
KTPs are a government-backed initiative designed to help companies innovate and grow by linking them up with university student and staff expertise and subsidizing costs by up to 60%. UK Universities entered a competition to put forward a case for a visit from the KTP Grad Bus.
Teesside was one of only three universities nationally to win a visit - the other two being Kingston and Birmingham.
The Bus will be open from 9.00am to 5.00pm for staff and students wanting to find out more about KTPs.
Ideal way to raise awareness Emma Detchon, Account Manager in the University’s Department for Academic Enterprise, said: ‘We’re delighted to have won a visit from the KTP Grad Bus. It’s an ideal way to raise awareness of KTPs amongst students. A lot of them don’t know KTPs are a form of job which can help them to fast track their careers.
‘KTPs are also an important way of providing companies with access to expertise and resources. This can help companies increase their profitability and competitiveness, which is very important in a time of recession.’
Vacancies for final year students and graduates will be advertised on board the Bus, while the University’s Careers Service will be offering advice on applying for KTP positions. Students from local Further Education Colleges are also eligible for KTP vacancies.
KTPs are funded by the technology strategy board. The Board is an executive non-departmental public body, established by the Government in 2007 and sponsored by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS).
