Teesside Sports Injury Centre has been highlighted in a national report as a first-class example of social enterprise.

The Centre, established by Steve Smelt, Senior Lecturer in Sports Therapy at the University, was used as a case study by the Department For Business, Innovation and Skills.

It’s report was used to produce a guide for university staff about creating social enterprises and it listed Teesside Sports Injury Centre as a prime example.

The report praised the University for its business support and commended the Centre for providing students with practical experience and creating job opportunities.

Teesside Sports Injury Centre is based in the University’s Innovation Building, with satellite clinics at Stokesley Leisure Centre, Billingham Forum and Redworth Hall, outside Newton Aycliffe.

It is staffed by Teesside Sports Therapy graduates who are registered with the Society of Sports Therapists. In addition, there are team members with specific expertise, including dieticians and sports psychologists. More about Teesside Sports Injury Centre
