Meet Teesside’s top names in research

A new series that takes a behind the scenes look at Teesside’s top researchers has been launched.

...on research is a fascinating glimpse into the groundbreaking research taking place here at Teesside University and the people behind it.

Whether it is improving safety on building projects, finding cleaner, greener fuel or looking at the best ways of managing public bodies – there’s a Teesside researcher leading the field.

With five research institutes, Teesside specialises in: • digital innovation • engineering, science and technology • design culture and the arts • health and social care • society.

Research at Teesside has a strong reputation built on the ability to apply the findings to improve the way things are carried out and influence on a local, regional, national and international level.

Collaborate with colleagues all over the world Researchers collaborate with colleagues all over the world and bring the expertise and recognition of important projects home to Teesside.

Professor Nashwan Dawood is the first to be profiled in the series, providing an insight into the work he has done on safety improvements including problem spotting on major projects such as building a new bridge over a London Underground line and a new gas rig at Hull.

The Director of the Technology Futures Institute says: ‘The projects I work in with industry mean I play a part in supporting the region’s economy so I feel part of the transformation of the region. The University and Middlesbrough have both changed a lot and I am proud to be part of this.’

Professor Zulf Ali, Dean of the Graduate Research School says: ‘This new series is an excellent way to discover more about the research going on at Teesside and the opportunities here.’
