Sustainable energy research open day at Teesside

Leading lights from the energy business will converge on Teesside University for a free conference.

The Technology Futures Institute (TFI), an international leader in key areas of research and innovation related to sustainable energy, is hosting the event, entitled ‘Sustainable energy: a bright future’.

A diverse variety of keynote speakers will be present covering a number of topics from carbon emissions and energy efficiency services, to challenges for domestic energy consumers and sustainable energy in an urbanised world.

The speakers include Mr John Bird, head of sustainability at Northern Powergrid, an electricity distributor with 3.8 million customers; Mr Jørgen Hivid, senior consultant at RAMBOLL, a leading engineering, design and consultancy company founded in Denmark and Professor Leandro Madrazo, School of Architecture La Salle, Universitat Ramon Llull, Barcelona, a leader in the application of IT to sustainable building and urban design.

It is an opportunity to connect with leading industry and academic experts and the latest technologies, research and applications, and view cutting-edge innovative research presented by the University’s postgraduate researchers.

Nashwan Dawood, Professor of School of Science & Engineering at TFI, said: ‘The aim of the Institute is to promote research, enterprise and innovation. The type of research that we carry out, including our work on sustainable energy, is vital to increasing the University’s international reputation. Open days like this one allow everyone to see the forward thinking and high quality research that goes on here and what really sets us apart from other like colleges and institutes.’

As well as developing new knowledge and technologies, the TFI provides a range of services through its strong, long standing relationships with public and private sector organisations.

This free event, is open to all and will take place between 9.00am – 5.00pm on Tuesday 15 May, in the Stephenson building, Stephenson Street, Middlesbrough. Lunch, refreshments and parking is available for all attending delegates.
