University shooting for success with football club partnership
Teesside University has been announced as an official partner of Middlesbrough Football Club on the eve of the Club’s new season back in the Premier League.
The two organisations will work together to promote the education and business expertise for which the University is renowned to national and international audiences, as well as the ambition and sporting excellence of the football club. Plans are also in place to enhance the learning experience of the University’s students through engagement with all aspects of life at the Club.
Teesside University Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Professor Paul Croney said: ‘This partnership represents a unique opportunity to promote the University and all that it has to offer nationally and internationally, such is the reach of the Premier League.
‘We will also be exploring opportunities for our students in fields on and off the pitch which will enrich their education through work-related learning and shared knowledge and facilities.’
It is great that we have been able to formalise our already strong links with the University and we are confident that working together we can continue to promote the region of Teesside on a global stage.
The partnership has already resulted in the development of a new Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management and Marketing which is delivered by the Teesside University Business School in conjunction with the Club, and there are further plans to enhance the University’s courses in areas including sports journalism and sports therapy. Other opportunities include research collaborations and student work placements and internships within the Club.
