BBC journalist Jonty Bloom will speak to members of the Business Exchange at Teesside University’s Darlington campus on Thursday, 26 January.

Jonty Bloom is a senior award-winning journalist, specialising in business, financial and European issues. One of Radio 4’s most respected reporters, he reports on business and economic stories for The World Tonight.

He is a business correspondent for BBC News, and has twice held the role of Europe Correspondent, travelling extensively throughout Europe and the world. His reports have twice won the Wincott Foundation award for Radio Programme of the Year, in 2004 and 2006. In 2009 he won the Royal Statistical Society Award for Statistical Excellence in Journalism.

Jonty's wealth of European experience makes him ideally placed to discuss the post-Brexit economy, and its likely impact on business in the region. Against this backdrop, he will also explore the Northern Powerhouse agenda and the growing role of the digital economy.

The Business Exchange is a network of senior leaders from businesses and organisations in the North East and North Yorkshire, with events held at Teesside University’s Darlington campus throughout the year.

Each event features a high-profile figure from the business world, speaking on a topical theme.

Laura Woods, Director of The Forge, Teesside University’s business hub, said: 'We are delighted to welcome Jonty to the Business Exchange.

'He is at the forefront of major business stories, and it will be fascinating to get his insights into Brexit and its implications, as well as other key economic issues for our area.

'We’re very much looking forward to hearing what he has to say.'

Future Business Exchange speakers include Formula One engineer Rob Smedley. The breakfast event with Jonty Bloom takes place from 7.30am to 9.15am on 26 January.
