One of the founding fathers of the UK’s games industry is to speak to business leaders at a special preview event to launch a highly successful leadership programme.

Ian Livingstone CBE, who has launched games including Tomb Raider and Dungeons & Dragons, will address the preview event to mark the latest Leading Growth programme offered by Teesside University.

Leading Growth is a fully-funded leadership and management programme designed specifically for SME business leaders in the Tees Valley.

As well as hearing from Ian Livingstone, the event will give interested SME owners/managers the chance to learn about Leading Growth 2018 which provides a blended approach to learning and includes an overnight experiential, site visits, think tanks with expert facilitators, business coaching and action learning sets.

In 1975, Ian Livingstone co-founded games company Games Workshop, launching Dungeons & Dragons in Europe, and Warhammer.

He co-authored The Warlock of Firetop Mountain in 1982, the first interactive book in the Fighting Fantasy series which has sold 20 million copies worldwide. He has written 15 titles in the series, including Deathtrap Dungeon and City of Thieves. His new book, The Port of Peril, was published by Scholastic in August 2017.

In 1995 he oversaw a merger that created Eidos plc where he served as Executive Chairman until 2002, and later as Creative Director. At Eidos he launched global video games franchises including Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. He is the former Chairman of Playdemic, publishers of hit mobile game, Golf Clash.

He has been ranked in the top 20 most influential people in the UK’s digital economy and also holds several non-executive and advisory roles in a number of companies and organisations in the digital and creative sector.

Laura Woods, Director of The Forge, Teesside University’s business hub, said: 'We are delighted to welcome Ian to speak at the preview event for Leading Growth 2018.

'Leading Growth has been extremely successful with previous cohorts and I am sure that Ian’s creative endeavours will prove to be incredibly inspirational for those businesses thinking of taking part in this year’s programme.'
