Jennifer Crewdson

When I graduated from Teesside University I attended the D&AD New Blood Exhibition in London where I signed up for a portfolio workshop with SapientNitro (now called Publicis Sapient), in London. After a follow-up interview I was offered a three-month internship with the agency at their London office – I worked with the design team on the Moët account. After a second round of interviews I was offered the position of designer.

As a designer I work closely with the user experience and developer teams. My role involves designing for digital – fixed web, mobile and tablet devices and apps, as well as for print including more ‘above the line’ work. Clients to date include Moët Hennessy, Louis Vuitton, NatWest, Barclays and The EU Creative Summit 2013. I have also been awards Runner up at the prestigious Cannes Young Lions Awards 2015 in the ‘Cyber category’.

Teesside University developed my design thinking and problem-solving skills, encouraging me to find surprising lateral solutions to briefs. I developed hand-generated techniques as well as digital skills, with a strong focus on experimentation. Whilst at Teesside I chose to focus on design for print, so now that I design mainly for digital, my skills in typography and layout are proving to be useful with the move towards flatter design in the digital space.

I hope to progress to more senior positions within the design industry through to creative director. The opportunity to travel with work would be hugely welcomed and, as my career progresses, experiencing different agencies will allow me to continue to learn and build a strong and varied portfolio, reflecting a wide breadth of experience.
