BEng Tech (Hons) Petroleum and Gas Engineering (Top-up)

'The lecturers are superb in what they do.'

What brought you to study at Teesside University?

I chose this course to advance my career with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. I choose Teesside University because it’s the only university in the UK that offers the programme as a top-up degree.

What did you enjoy about your course?

I enjoyed everything about the course particularly the library. My favourite modules were Reservoir Rock and Fluid Properties and the group design project. The lecturers on these modules are excellent teachers.

I found the course rich in content and the modules delivered by lecturers with experience in the petroleum industry. This transcended the classroom walls – practical industrial knowledge and skills backed by one of the best petroleum engineering study laboratories in the UK.

What did you think about the campus and living in the area?

The campus is a great learning environment. The Students’ Union is the place on campus for study and diverse cultural events and parties. I really liked the library and engineering laboratories. The campus has a good layout, and it's in the heart of the town.

The cost of living in Teesside is significantly lower than elsewhere is the UK and Middlesbrough is a particularly cool study environment – not too big or crowded.

What are you doing now?

I now work back at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, in the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS) as a petroleum engineer - gas resources management.

My work involves effectively managing gas utilisation projects, undertaking gas field pre-investment studies and co-ordinating gas location preparation and well development.

Would you recommend Teesside University and your course?

I recommend Teesside University and my course. It is well structured and tailored towards the industrial needs of the oil and gas industry, and the lecturers are superb in what they do. If there is anything academically great in you, they bring it out.
