Graeme graduated from Teesside University and now works as a performance analyst at Middlesbrough Football Club.
I came to Teesside University as a mature student to accomplish my dream of forging a career in professional football.
I was immediately attracted to Teesside because of their excellent facilities, something
I knew would make my course interesting and industry relevant.
The opportunity to undertake an internship with Middlesbrough Football Club, between the second and third year of my course, enabled me to put the theory I’d learnt into real-world practice. I really enjoyed the experience of working in a professional environment and spent my time working as a sports therapist for the players.
I was determined to make a good impression and my hard work paid off. After finishing my course I was taken on full time.
I’m now employed as a performance analyst within the academy. I work with players aged 9 - 23 and their coaches, using video footage to analyse their performance and improve their game. I also work with the team to review footage of competitor teams and their individual players, to analyse the opposition and develop our game before an upcoming match.
My time at the University is something I look back on with fond memories. Teesside’s links with the club opened doors for me that have enabled me to progress to where I am today. The learning environment and the lecturers were second-to-none and I still keep in touch with some of my tutors in my working life.
