Jodi was really impressed by the forensic and crime scene facilities at Teesside.
'None of the other universities I applied to had an entire house for crime scene use and the labs at Teesside stood out a mile above the rest.'
I was attracted to Teesside University because of the high-tech science labs and the crime scene house. I attended an open day where I got to see these facilities for myself. None of the other universities I applied to had an entire house for crime scene use and the labs at Teesside stood out a mile above the rest. They have brand new high-tech equipment which shows that the University has invested into their science programmes.
My course is accredited by The Chartered Society of Forensic Science, which is another thing that appealed to me. The teaching is mainly classroom based with integrated lab sessions. The lab sessions are the best part about the course – they give an insight into the working world.
My favourite module has been Drugs and Toxicology as it gives an insight into what I think is currently one of the most important area of forensics, and gives an understanding of how drugs affect the body.
My plan after my degree is to move on to complete a master’s degree. My three years at Teesside has helped me get the confidence and knowledge to be able to do this. One day I hope to be working within the forensic industry as a ballistics expert.
My time at Teesside University has definitely helped me get closer to my goals. It has given me a great opportunity to gain confidence in practical work as well as theoretical work. With the knowledge I have learned here, I am confident that I will be able to move on to a master’s degree and I’m sure I won’t have any trouble progressing into the working world.
