Senior associate, Deloitte
'My course at Teesside helped me prepare for a career in forensics – I learnt a vast amount. I’ve been able to use my knowledge and techniques in the real world of work.'
After graduating I worked as an IT forensic investigator for the Serious Fraud Office. After a year I was approached by Deloitte and I’m now a senior associate in its Analytic and Forensic Technologies department.
My course at Teesside helped me prepare for a career in forensics – I learnt a vast amount. I’ve been able to use my knowledge and techniques in the real world of work.
My interest in technology and law enforcement gave me a good idea of what I wanted to do for a living. I decided on Teesside University because of its state-of-the-art equipment and Forensic Science Society accreditation.
I used the University’s career service quite a bit while studying there. I also took part in DiversiTees, a mentoring scheme where I was supported by a detective constable from Cleveland Police. This definitely helped me gain the experience and confidence to work within my field.
I’m keen to carry on working in forensics within the private sector, moving up to a senior management position. And I’d like to spend some time working in the US. Within my current job I will have the opportunity to work abroad – I hope I can within the next couple of years.
I recommend Teesside and digital forensics in particular– it’s been recognised by many professional bodies and by the press. The atmosphere and professionalism provided by lecturers is brilliant. All had previously worked within the industry – it helped give me a better understanding of the type of work and industry I was going to be working in.
Make the most of the University’s facilities and its careers department – getting involved can help you get a good placement or find your first graduate job.
