Why the International Student Barometer Survey is important

We listen to what international students tell us in the survey and use the information to develop the university and improve our student experience each year. In 2016, we made the following developments as a result of the feedback we received.

YOU SAID WE HAVE
You would like more opportunities to make friends with UK students and you would like better signposting to good things to do in the local area.

Appointed an Events Co-ordinator in the Department of International Development. Part of their role is to organise social events which will bring together home and international students. The Events Co-ordinator is also liaising with the events team in the Students’ Union, advising on a programme of subsidised events and excursions which will help international students meet UK students and experience more places of interest in the local area.

In order to give the opportunity for international students to meet with UK students during Freshers’ Week, we have also integrated some of our orientation activities so that where possible, they are delivered to UK and international students at the same time.

You wanted to know what we are doing to make you feel happy, healthy and safe at Teesside

Created a new publication for international students, providing signposting and information on how to be happy, healthy and safe as an international student at Teesside University.

In addition to the existing safety procedures and protocols we had in place at the University, we have also introduced SafeZone, a new personal safety app for students and staff on campus, and now have two permanent Police Communications Officers on campus to support students.

You thought our accommodation needed updating. Refurbished and redecorated our university-owned housing as an immediate step to improve accommodation. For the mid to longer term, new student accommodation is part of our £300m campus development master plan, and we have proposed a new student village in the town centre.
