Atiqah came from Brunei to study at Teesside.
BA (Hons) Fine Art
'I liked everything about the degree'
I came over from Brunei to join my sister Amalina, who was already studying diagnostic radiography at Teesside.
She is now working back in Brunei as a radiographer and I am going to pursue a career as a secondary art teacher back home. We both received government sponsorships for our degrees.
Having my sister here made it easier to come over for the first time. I liked everything about the Fine Art degree; I’ve learned team work and the importance of professionalism. I really enjoyed my final-year exhibition, learning how to put it together and publicise it.
My final project was a self-portrait of various aspects of my life, there’s everything from golf clubs to handbags. And it also reflects our consumer, materialistic society.
Middlesbrough was good too. The cost of living was low and everything was within walking distance.
