The disability symbol
The ‘Two Ticks’ symbol is recognition by Jobcentre Plus to employers who agree to meet five commitments on the recruitment, employment, retention, and career development of people with a disability.
We are proud to be a symbol user and are committed to interviewing applicants with a disability if they meet the minimum criteria for selection - the Essential elements of the person specification will be the benchmark for the minimum criteria.
The five commitments
- Interviewing - to interview applicants with a disability who meet the minimum criteria.
- Consulting employees with a disability - to ensure a mechanism is in place to discuss what can be done to make sure you can develop and use your abilities.
- Retaining people who develop a disability - to make every effort to do this.
- Developing awareness - to ensure all employees develop the disability awareness needed to make the commitments work.
- Reviewing progress and keeping people informed - to review the five commitments and what has been achieved, to plan improvements and let employees and Jobcentre Plus know.
The commitment to interview applicants with a disability who meet the minimum criteria is on the understanding the University will make any reasonable adjustment to help attendance at interview. To assist in this applicants with a disability should complete the questions on disability.
The Mindful Employer initiative is aimed at increasing awareness of mental health at work and providing support for businesses in recruiting and retaining staff.

Centre House
Single storey - access from Southfield Road gate on the left. Toilet in entrance hall.
Centuria Building
Three storey - access from Victoria Road (automatic doors). Lift. Toilet - all floors.
Clarendon Building
Three storey - ground floor entrance from link building. Lift. Toilet - all floors.
Constantine Building
Three storey - access all floors via Middlesbrough Tower lift. Toilet - ground floor and first floor.
Education House
Three storey - ramped entrance in Woodlands Road. Access limited to ground floor. Toilet.

Three storey - access at ground floor level from Students' Union car park (automatic doors next to IT Building.) Lift. Toilet - all floors. - Information Technology Building
Two storey - access to first floor via lift in CfE. Access to ground floor by IT building lift from first floor. Toilet - ground floor. - Open Learning Technology Centre
Two storey - ramped entrance. Lift. Toilet - ground floor.
Greig Building
Two storey - access via bridge from IT Building. Lift to ground floor. Toilet - all floors.
Stephenson Building
Three storey. Lift. Toilet - all floors.
Library
Five storey - access from Southfield Road (automatic doors via concourse. Lift. Toilet - all floors.
Meteor Building
Ground floor access at east end of King Edward's Square. Toilet.
Middlesbrough Tower
Multi-storey - access from primary car park. Lift. Toilets - ground floor.
Minerva Building
Two storey - steep ramp at rear of Clarendon Road. Access limited to ground floor. No toilet.
Orion Building
Three storey - ramped entrance from Clarendon Road. Lift. Toilet - ground floor.
Parkside West
Three storey - ramped entrance. Lift. Toilet - ground floor.
Sport & Recreation Building
Three storey - access from primary car park (automatic doors). Access to first floor by stair lift. Toilet - ground floor. Access also from ground floor of Middlesbrough Tower.
Staff Club
Single storey - ramped access. No toilet with wheelchair access.
Student Centre
Three storey - ground floor entrance from link building. Lift. Toilet - all floors.
Students' Union and Refectory
Three storey - entrance at ground floor. Lift. Toilet - first and second floors.
Tangram House
Three storey - ramped entrance from rear car park. Access - ground floor only. No toilet.
University House
Two storey - ramp from car park. Access - ground floor only. No toilet.
Victoria Building
Two storey - access to ground floor only via Estates entrance on West elevation. Toilet.
Waterhouse Building
Ramped access from rear entrance opposite Clarendon Building - ground floor only. Toilet.
