Give blood says Stacey

08 August 2002

Young people aged 17-25 are the target of a new fictitious campaign from University of Teesside BA (Honours) Graphic Design graduate Stacey Nottingham. For Stacey, 22, from Thornaby, devised the campaign as part of her final-year project, which encourages young people to give blood.

Stacey came to the University after achieving ‘A’ levels in Art & Design, Business Studies and Economics at St. Mary’s Sixth Form College, and a foundation course in Art & Design from Cleveland College of Art & Design.

She said: “I’ve always loved Art since I was at Secondary School. I’ve learned so many things on the degree, such as multi-media applications and my computer skills have really developed. We were always encouraged to be creative.”

Stacey considered several organisations for her final year project, including the NSPCC and national AIDS charities, before choosing the National Blood Service. Her campaign includes a postcard, two posters, a booklet and leaflets.

“I’ve aimed the campaign at 17-25 year olds to generate more donors amongst this group. The literature could be left in Doctor’s waiting rooms. I’ve chosen a simple illustrative style and have left out any images of needles. I also pose a question, what if you went into hospital and there was no blood available? I would be really pleased if the National Blood Service took up my ideas,” added Stacey.

Stacey is now aiming for a career in magazine design. She is the daughter of Maureen and Kevin Nottingham and the first in her family to graduate from University.
