Skin speaks at Teesside’s Enterprising Fair

31 October 2002

Skin, former lead singer with multi-platinum selling group Skunk Anansie, will share her business expertise with students and graduates at the University of Teesside’s Enterprise Fair at the University’s Centre for Enterprise, Victoria Road, Middlesbrough, on Tuesday 12 November, from 2pm-4.15pm.

The fair is open to all students and graduates who are interested in setting up their own businesses. University of Teesside double graduate Skin (see Notes to Editors) will speak at the fair via a video conferencing link. She is part of a panel of five experts, who will take questions from an audience of students and graduates. The panel will also include Ted Fuller, the University's Professor of Entrepreneurship and Strategic Foresight, who co-founded a manufacturing business at the age of 19, Tan Ellahi from Ellahi & Pinkney Graphic Design, Alistair Waite from Onyx, and local journalist Alan Wright.

The panel will speak from 2pm-3.30pm. This will be followed by three separate seminars, running at the same time from 3.30pm-4.15pm. At these seminars the audience can question experts about the following subjects:

TV and Multimedia.
Business start-up and funding issues.
Design and innovation.

Some speakers will also describe their involvement in the University's Graduate Enterprise Support Programme (GESP), which helps graduates to set up new enterprises, initially on the University campus. The business start-ups are in fields such as web site design, animation, interior design and music. So far 25 companies have been set up on campus, creating 50 jobs.

Catherine Kearney, Manager of the University's Centre for Enterprise said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for students to ask questions about starting a business. The panel represents a wide variety of knowledge and know-how about running a successful business and one panel member started a business following graduation. The seminars will allow the student audience to explore, in detail, particular areas of interest."
