Tanni talks at Teesside

Internationally renowned Paralympic athlete Tanni Grey-Thompson will be a keynote speaker at a Teesside conference being held to celebrate the work of work of local sports coachers, volunteers, club officials, teachers, facility providers, players and athletes.

The Tees Valley Sport Partnership and University of Teesside’s Club & Coach Conference will be held on Saturday 6 December 2003, from 9.15am - 4.30pm at the University’s campus.

The conference will feature workshops, trade displays and talks on a diverse range of sports-related subjects such as over training, litigation, sports injuries, long term athletic development and working with disabled athletes. Tanni Grey-Thompson will be discussing her experiences of sports clubs and the support and encouragement she received during the early stages of her career. Tanni Grey-Thompson was presented with an Honorary Degree of Master of Science from the University of Teesside in 2001.

Professor Graham Henderson, the University of Teesside’s Vice Chancellor, will also be delivering a talk outlining his experiences with local sports clubs, especially in relation to his role as a juniors coach at Guisborough Rugby Union Football Club.

Jean Lordon, Tees Valley Sport Partnership Manager, said: “This is a great opportunity for all local sports clubs and members to come together to learn not just from our speakers, but also from each other. As well as Tanni Grey-Thompson, we have several University of Teesside sports lecturers and representatives from the English Federation of Disability Sport, the Women’s Sport Foundation and will also be offering detailed advice on coaching a the law.”
