Animex Student Animation Awards - A Celebration of Student Animation Worldwide

The University of Teesside is once again inviting the animators from around the world to submit entries to the Animex Student Animation Awards.

Following on from the success of last year’s awards, which saw over 350 entries from 25 different countries, this year’s competition has three new categories.

The new categories are:

3D Character Animation Award - best and most innovative character animation utilising a 3D animation application for film, TV, video or digital output

Animation Stills Award - best animation still produced in high resolution from a computer animation

Newcomer Award - best and most innovative use of 2D or 3D software for the production of an animation by a student under the age of 18

Other categories:

Best 3D Computer Animation Best 2D Computer Animation 3D Computer Animation for Games Best Computer Web Animation Best Visual Effects Best Short Animation Best Experimental Animation Best Editing Award Best Sound for Animation

Entry to this unique competition is free and open to both UK and overseas students.

Any frame by frame or computer assisted animated film or video created by a student between Tuesday 1st June 2003 and Friday 1st October 2004 will be eligible. The deadline for entries is Friday 1 October 2004.

Justin Greetham, Animex Student Award co-ordinator, said: “Last year was the inaugural animation awards for Animex, and we had an amazing response. With 350 entries worldwide, we could truly call it an international competition.

“As well as adding three more categories, we also want to hear from people interested in designing and creating the actual awards which will be presented to the animators at the Animex awards ceremony. If you have any interesting ideas for a trophy design, get in touch with me and send supporting artwork. The winning designer will see their trophy created as a prize. There is also an opportunity to win dedicated painting software, book vouchers (courtesy of focal press http://www.focalpress.com) and cash.”

The closing date for trophy designs proposals is 1st September 2004.
