Chris travels through time

University of Teesside history student Chris Young is a dedicated time traveller.

Chris, 19, from New Marske, near Redcar is in the first year of a BA (Hons) degree in History at the University of Teesside. He came to the university with A Level History (B), Computing (C) and Chemistry (D) from Prior Pursglove College.

He is particularly keen on Political, Early Modern and Modern history. He said: “I find history really interesting. I just really enjoy it. It’s amazing how you can look at the past and see how certain events can have connotations for today. You can see how conflicts arose during the Crusades, mainly caused by religious and social differences, and see how that relates to problems in the world today. But at the same time it also shows some early examples of successful multi-culturalism and how people can learn to live together.

“I chose Teesside as I wanted to stay near my friends and family but also because I had heard that Teesside had a really good history department. The lecturers are great and I’m enjoying my course a lot. The Learning Resource Centre is fantastic and has loads of books, journals and computers. I’ve never had to wait for a PC so far, which is a real help. The campus is very accessible and people seem to be enjoying their time here. And the SU bar has a great atmosphere and it’s very welcoming.”

Outside of studying Chris enjoys football and computer gaming. His sister Emma is also studying at the University of Teesside, on Business Management part-time.
