Food, glorious food - the way forward

25 August 2000

The role of the newly established Food Standards Agency will be explored in a free seminar to be held at the University of Teesside on Wednesday 30 August from 2pm-6pm. The seminar has been organised by the University's Food Technology Centre, who provide training and expertise to the food and drink industry, and will take place in the Main Lecture Theatre, Europa Building, Woodlands Road, Middlesbrough.

Barry McCrea, Business Development Manager for the Food Technology Centre said: "The Food Standards Agency want to make sure your food is safe and offer independent, balanced advice. To achieve this, they need the public's input - what food issues interest you and what information would you find useful? During the seminar the audience will hear the aims of the Agency, from Dr Mike Segal, Director of Strategy, who will also be available for questions."

Representatives from local food and drink companies will also deliver talks at the seminar, explaining the benefits of teaching company schemes for graduates.

Barry added: "The seminar is mainly for the region's food and drink producers but is open to everyone."

To reserve a place contact Julia Macfarlane in the Food Technology Centre on 01642 342441 or fax 01642 342508.
