Middlesbrough Mela and Stockton Festival Go Global

11 July 2006

The sights and sounds of the two of the region’s biggest and brightest summer events will be broadcast live over the Internet by a specialist web team from the University of Teesside. And members of the public can get involved.

Performances and interviews will be recorded by volunteers at both the Middlesbrough Mela (Sunday 16 July) and Stockton International Riverside Festival (Wednesday 2 – Sunday 6 August), using professional video cameras and digital still cameras. These recordings will available to a world wide audience on www.boromela.co.uk and www.riverfest.co.uk.

Steve Thompson, the University of Teesside’s Community Media Co-ordinator, said: “We would love to hear from volunteers who would like to contribute to the live web broadcasts. There are lots of activities to get involved with, including submitting still images, video clips, blog reports and reviews of the performances. People from all over the world will be able to see what’s happening in our region. Complete beginners are more than welcome as we can provide equipment and people can even use their own cameras.”

The best images and blog reports will be featured on the BBC Tees website and showcased in the ‘Taste of Summer’ exhibitions to be held in Stockton and Middlesbrough later in the year.

To get involved with the Internet activities for either the Mela or Stockton International Riverside Festival, contact Steve Thompson on 01642 384567 or email: s.d.thompson@tees.ac.uk.    The Internet activities for the Mela and Stockton International Riverside Festival are managed by the University of Teesside’s Department of Academic Enterprise.
