Become a time traveller at University workshop

28 June 2007

Have you always wanted to find out more about your history but been unsure how to go about it? Found a letter from a long lost relative? Or photographs which transport you back to days long gone by?

If so, why not come along to a free interactive History Open Day at the University of Teesside on Wednesday 4 July?

A number of different sessions have been arranged to shed light on North Eastern history, including:

  • Dr Tony Nicholson will be sharing ‘secrets from his attic’. He will reveal how discoveries made on moving to a new house uncovered a tragic love story, which was acted out almost a hundred years ago.
  • Laura Towns, from The North East Film and Television Archive will use clips from the highly acclaimed television series, The Way We Were, to help capture everyday life from the past.
  • Award-winning novelist, Jonathan Tulloch, pictured, whose latest book is set in the heart of Middlesbrough’s docklands, will draw on the memories of local people to reconstruct life in the shipyards.

Margaret Hems, Section Head of History, said: “The great thing about local and family history is that it brings together learning and enjoyment. Everyone is welcome to attend the Open Day and find out a bit more about family, community and regional history.”

The Open Day will run from 10am to 1.30pm in Room M702 (7th Floor) of the University’s Middlesbrough Tower building. Lunch is provided.
