New Postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Commissioning

17 August 2007

The Commissioning Framework places primary care professionals, including general practitioners, nurses, allied health professionals, practice teams and social care providers, alongside secondary care clinicians at the heart of the decision making process to commission services for the local population.

In order to carry out the commissioning function a new set of skills is needed to ensure that commissioning is underpinned by the relevant evidence, financial effectiveness and quality enhancement required to support health and social care reform.

The Service Improvement Team, in the School of Health & Social Care in collaboration with the Improvement Foundation, National Association of Primary Care, the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement and with the support of the Department of Health, have developed a Postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Commissioning. This course is designed to enable effective commissioning to be developed nationally. It is aimed at professionals and managers from health and social care and associated agencies who are involved in the commissioning of locally based services.

The course consists of three modules: Evidence-based Commissioning, Leading Integrated Commissioning and Impact Analysis of Advanced Commissioning and commences in September 2007.
