A Russian approach to enterprise

A delegation from the University of Nizhni Novgorod in Russia recently visited the University of Teesside as part of a fact-finding mission to look at the way British universities engage with business and handle technology and knowledge transfer.

Led by their Rector Professor Roman Strongin, the delegation from the important industrial centre east of Moscow and the birthplace of the Russian author Maxim Gorky, visited Teesside’s new Institute of Digital Innovation and met some of the graduate start-up companies in the Victoria Road incubation centre.

The visit was organised and co-ordinated by London Metropolitan University who visited Teesside in the summer to learn about the University’s Knowledge Transfer Policy, Strategy and Organisation.

Laura Woods, Director of the Department of Academic Enterprise at the University of Teesside, said: ‘We were asked us to be involved because of our work in Knowledge Transfer here at Teesside. The visit was an ideal chance for University staff who work with business to meet our Russian visitors and discuss our approaches to enterprise. The visit proved we have a lot to learn from each other and we look forward to keeping channels of communication open in the future.’
