Extra incentive to shine in competition

08 December 2008 @TeesUniNews

Ambitious students are being encouraged to showcase their work for a prestigious competition and be in with the chance of securing an internship with an internationally renowned video game publisher.

The Vis Awards have been designed to recognise and reward animation, games, digital music and software development techniques developed by Teesside students.

And this year the Vis Awards are being sponsored by Ubisoft Entertainment - a leading French computer games publisher with facilities in over 20 countries.

Ubisoft is offering a trio of six month internships to students taking part in the competition.

A spokesman for Ubisoft said: ‘We are delighted to be involved in this year’s Vis Awards. We recognise the importance of the University of Teesside’s games development courses, for the students who learn essential industry skills and for the growth of the UK’s world class development community.’

Run by the School of Computing, the Vis Awards are split into five categories:

  • Computer Games Design Award
  • Modelling Award
  • Character Animation Award
  • Games Programming Award
  • Digital Music Award

The deadline for entries is midday on Tuesday 21 April 2009.
