Sweeping success for Students’ Union

23 February 2009

Our Students' Union is celebrating receiving four new glittering trophies after sweeping the board at the prestigious Best Bar None awards.

The nationally renowned awards recognise outstanding standards of customer service, staff training and good practice in licensed premises.

During a lavish ceremony at the Riverside Stadium, The Hub won Best Nightclub in Middlesbrough and the Students' Union was also named overall winner of Best Bar None for Middlesbrough.

The Terrace Bar was runner up in the Best Pub category and there was additional success with the coveted Best Bar None accreditation.

Being seen as the best in the region Tom Cawkwell, President of the Students' Union, said: ‘We're absolutely thrilled to be recognised in this way and it's a fantastic tribute to the exceptional performance of all the staff who work in our licensed trade and venue departments.

‘We already knew the Terrrace Bar and The Hub were two of the best venues, not only in Middlesbrough, but the whole region, however it's always nice to see that people within the industry agree.’

The awards are a welcome addition to previous successes, including Best Students' Union in the North from Best Bar None last year, plus the title of Best Students' Union in the UK which we collected from two national awards schemes in 2002 and 2004.
