Knowledge Transfer scheme is outstanding

A Knowledge Transfer Partnership scheme between us and Stockton Casting Company Ltd has been awarded an Outstanding Grade A by independent external assessors.

The KTP supervised by Professor Farhad Nabhani from the University and Alex Ramsay from the company was set up to upgrade business efficiency by implementing improved operational systems and castings design capability.

It involved placing graduate Martin McKie with the company for two years to help introduce a wide range of advanced business improvements for the firm linked to the introduction of new technology. Helped secure £61,619 grant funding During the KTP, Teesside graduate Martin helped to secure £61,619 for the company in grant funding from One North East towards a development project with the University involving a Compactor Tooth design. And towards the end of the two-year project the company saw sales increase by 340%, with at least 30% of this being as a result of the KTP.

The Outstanding Grade A was given by independent external assessors on behalf of the Technology Strategy Board. 'Being graded A – Outstanding is the highest grade possible and this is a great accolade for the team involved with this Teesside University KTP.' said Emma Detchon, KTP Account Manager. 'Knowledge Transfer Partnerships are proving to be a winning formula for more and more firms in the North East of England.' she said. Alex Ramsay, Technical Director of The Stockton Casting Co Ltd agrees, saying: 'The benefits of a KTP are clear. Martin has enabled us to turn some of our ideas into reality.' For Martin, it has been all been a fantastic experience. 'It will greatly improve me as a manager and an engineer in my future roles.' he said.
