University lecturers launch Lit Night in Darlington

07 October 2009

Two top-selling authors linked to Teesside University’s MA in Creative Writing will lead a Lit Night event to mark the launch of the course in Darlington.

Lit Night will be held in the Club Room at Darlington Arts Centre, Vane Terrace, Darlington, starting at 7.00pm with doors open at 6.30pm on Wednesday 14 October. Tickets are free and include a glass of wine. Reading from their latest work will be Carol Clewlow and Nik Jones. Carol is a lecturer for the MA in Creative Writing at Teesside University and will be teaching at the University’s Darlington campus. Nik is a graduate of the MA course.

Information about the MA in Creative Writing at the University’s building off The Fairway, Yarm Road, Darlington, will be available at the event.

Recent bestseller Carol’s recent bestseller Not Married Not Bothered takes a look at relationships and celebrates a woman’s right to choose the single life. She is best known for her earlier bestseller A Woman’s Guide to Adultery, which was made into a television series. Her first novel Keeping the Faith was shortlisted for the Whitbread Prize.

'Even if you feel you've wanted to write, it's hard to sit down at home in the corner on your own and do it,' said Carol. 'An MA in creative writing offers both support and encouragement, and this particular MA is wonderfully wide-ranging.'

She added: 'Whether you feel you're a poet, a novelist, or you want to write a screenplay, you'll find first class, sympathetic tuition which will help you on your way.' Nik’s first novel 9987, which has been described as 'gripping, cinematic and voyeuristic,' is one of four books selected by New Writing North for its Read Regional campaign.
