Outstanding performances from our sports teams

13 October 2009

Teesside’s sportsmen and women gave it their all during a fantastic battle with York St John University.

The North Yorkshire Varsity competition saw our sports stars go head-to-head with York in a total of 25 matches.

The sports covered included rugby, hockey, football, netball and cheerleading.

After a tough day of competition, York came out on top with a final score of ten-and-a-half points to nine-and-a-half points.

Nat Broom, Student Activities Officer at the Students’ Union said: ‘We’d obviously have loved to bring the North Yorkshire Varsity trophy back home, but I’m incredibly proud of the competitive spirit all our teams showed as well as the many outstanding individual performances that saw us give York St John some strong competition.

‘It’s clear we’ve got great potential and quality across the board and I’m confident that we’ll see great things from many of our teams in competition this year.

‘I must also congratulate York St John on a fine victory and praise all of their players and teams for the fantastic attitude and spirit they showed both on and off the field. The key thing was that everyone enjoyed a great day of sport and both universities made sure that happened.’
